yes it is ok, but not un-supervised. anything from hawks to racoons to snakes can get her there. just sit by her and make sure everything is ok and she is enjoying it.

Out of 3 parrots the Goffin Cockatoo,Blue Fronted Amazon and African Grey which one would you advise?
Question by Charlotte L: Out of 3 parrots the Goffin Cockatoo,Blue Fronted Amazon and African Grey which one would you advise?
Ok here is this question. I have narrowed this disesion down to 3 parrots and am tring to decide on which one to purchase. Eather the Blue fronted amazon, African Grey(I actually think it is a congo grey it has the red tail feathers), or Goffin Cockatoo. I want affectionate but comicall but also i have 13 cockatiels i am rasing and one african ringneck dove.

Answer by me
well, the cockatoos need a TON of attention and will get very stressed out if you dont give it to them all the time, and because you have so many other birds to take care of…..
greys are super super smart but i think they can be tempermental, it varies from bird to bird, but the chances are higher in that you may get a tempermental bird if you go with the grey. so i guess i would recommend the amazon!

What do you feed a 12 week old african grey?
Question by sukhi: What do you feed a 12 week old african grey?
I am getting my african grey tomorrow, the breeder said he is still eating his baby foods, should I carry on feeding him this or start him on proper foods. I know he loves his garlic sticks, so will get pleanty of them for him. But im not too sure about the baby food. He has been hand fed and socialised very tame.

An week African Grey should be introduce to pellets in his feed dish all the time. Almonds are good for them also. Feed him veggies in the morning and maybe a little bit of fruit. My COG is 18 weeks old, he was 12 weeks when I brought him home. At first I wet his pellets and feed them in a spoon a couple of times each day to make sure he was getting enough. I wouldn’t feed him garlic sticks, if you do just give him a little bit. I would take him out of the cage each morning and feed him veggies every morning because this is really good for him. You can give him fruit but not too much since it has lots of natural sugar. There is list on sites on internet that tell you exactly what to feed them/ Try to feed him only food good for him at first so he knows what healthy food is. I would wait a month at least to give him anything that would be considered a treat to get him use to food.

MJ, my Congo African Grey parrot counts to 4, after I promise to give him some popcorn. He always asks for popcorn twice, just to make sure he doesn’t get cheated out of his reward, lol.

How to stop an African Grey from biting?
Question by Mithie: How to stop an African Grey from biting?
Well, its not MY African Grey, it’s my cousins. It bites every time they take it out. I know one way to stop it, when it bites, do NOT make a sudden movement and just say no, put it in his or her cage and cover it and then take it out a few minutes later. Here’s the problem though: It keeps on biting!
Is there any other way or should my cousin keep on doing this process and hope for the best?

Why don’t your train your “cousins” African Grey like you do yours? I agree with BirdLady on your last question about it puffing up. Go online, or get a GOOD INFORMATIONAL book about CAGs. Maybe go to Chet Womach’s Bird Tricks, it might help.
